The Power Of Humble Confidence

As the host of LinkedConversations - a podcast covering all things LinkedIn - I have the opportunity to interview a variety of guests - from famous rocks stars to New York Times best selling authors.

What has struck me about several of these individuals is what I call their "humble confidence."

In short, they are confident in who they are and the talent they have, but are humble about it.

Recently I interviewed Craig Johnson, author of the Longmire mystery novels that are the basis for the A&E television series.

Craig is the epitome of humble confidence. Despite the fact that he has published 11 novels and is creative consultant on the TV series (which is a hit) he still wakes up early, does chores on his ranch and lives in the same small town in Wyoming (population 25) that he has for the past 20 years.

During our interview I asked Craig how he uses social media and he responded with: "it's my way of staying in touch with my readers and fans of the TV show."

If you go to Craig's website and click on the contact page, you'll find his Gmail address. Not a publicist or an "info@" address - but his personal email address.

Humble confidence.

Is there a takeaway here? Oh, yes there is!

In order to to be successful you need to be confident in your talents and what you are capable of accomplishing.

The way you stand out is to be humble with what you've accomplished and treat everyone like they are as important as your most important customer, investor or friend.
